Spurgeon Fest Video Recording

Well, the Spurgeon Fest came and went! Thank God, I was not as nervous as I thought I would be. But I was definitely nervous enough!

Originally I wanted to speak on 1 Corinthians 4:1. However, the more I read through the Bible using Professor Horner’s Bible Reading System, I decided to speak on Luke 12:35-40.  I chose this passage because it exhorts us to be ready for Jesus’ return! His return is something we, as Christians, believe is imminent; however, it seems that we Christians fail to live as though He may return to-day! Thus, I chose this passage to exhort my fellow students (and the faculty and staff at TMC) to be ready for Jesus’ return.

It was an humbling honor to have had the privilege to speak during this year’s Spurgeon Fest. It was definitely a great opportunity to hone my preaching skills. I learned a lot from studying the passage. But what I learned most, was that I need to be continually living my life in such a way that would qualify me to preach every day! Let me explain this a bit further. When I accepted the invitation to teach at this year’s Spurgeon Fest, I began to pray more — not just for the sermon, but that I would be spiritually ready to preach. I fought harder against sin. I sought the Lord more diligently to keep me pure, and to reveal to me any sin that needed to be repented of. During this time, I realized how absurd it is that I would fight harder against sin and pray more diligently for purity only during the time prior to some special speaking engagement. It became more clear that Christians should constantly be warring against sin and praying diligently! Always! Every day is an opportunity for us to minister to others, and so every day we must pray diligently as we war against sin by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Well here is a video of the teaching. I know I have plenty of room to grow in my preaching skills, and I am confident that the Lord will cause me to grow if it is His will that I continue preaching! :-)
